Bloodborne Gains Minor Visual Upgrade Through PS5 Pro’s Image Boost Mode

The critically acclaimed Bloodborne, a PlayStation 4 classic, remains exclusive to the platform with no official release on other systems, but it appears to gain a small visual enhancement when played on the upcoming PS5 Pro. Early impressions from a user with access to the PS5 Pro indicate that Bloodborne benefits from Sony’s new “boost mode” through improved image quality, specifically with AI upscaling. This feature enhances some PS4 titles by offering a slight resolution bump when running on the PS5 Pro, though Sony confirmed that it will be limited to a resolution upgrade and won’t enhance other performance aspects of PS4 games.

According to comparisons shared on the ResetERA gaming forum, Bloodborne appears slightly sharper on the PS5 Pro. The user initially speculated that the differences were negligible, but further analysis revealed a visible, if modest, improvement. The original PS4 version of Bloodborne runs at 1080p with a locked 30 FPS but has uneven frame pacing, leading to periodic performance stutters. On the PS5 Pro, AI upscaling helps refine the visual fidelity by smoothing edges and enhancing clarity, though it does not address frame rate limitations or the underlying performance issues.

For those awaiting more substantial improvements, there are limited options. Some modders have managed to run Bloodborne at higher frame rates on jailbroken consoles with custom patches, though this method is inaccessible to the general player base.

With the PS5 Pro set for release on November 7, more detailed side-by-side comparisons and analyses are expected, which could shed further light on the extent of these enhancements for Bloodborne and other PS4 games. While these improvements may not revolutionize the Bloodborne experience, they offer a slight upgrade that fans of the title may appreciate on the new hardware.
