Nintendo’s Secret Online Switch PlayTest Is Already Being Streamed Online

Nintendo’s recent online game playtest has attracted considerable attention, albeit not entirely in the manner the company had hoped. Despite efforts to ensure secrecy through a strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA), key gameplay details and footage of this highly anticipated project have been leaked. Some participants defied the NDA by livestreaming their gameplay.

This exclusive playtest is part of Nintendo’s broader initiative to explore large-scale multiplayer capabilities through the Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program. While the game’s official title has yet to be revealed, its core premise involves cooperative planetary development, giving players an early glimpse into a vast online environment centered around teamwork and building.

From the leaked footage, the game appears to share similarities with third-person sandbox games like Minecraft or Dragon Quest Builders. Players seem to carry blocks and construct large settlements, leading many to describe it as a live-service version of Dragon Quest Builders. The game’s central theme revolves around the collaborative creation and development of a massive planet. Players use specialized tools called Beacons to heal sections of the planet and expand their influence over specific areas. The world is divided into segments known as Planetary Blocks, and each player is responsible for their own Beacon Zone, where they can build and modify their environment.

While public areas encourage collaboration among players to gather resources, alter the landscape, and embark on large-scale construction projects, protecting valuable resources within personal Beacon Zones adds a strategic layer to the gameplay.

At the center of this multiplayer experience is the Dev Core, a hub where players can collect items, upgrade skills, and interact with other participants. Progress is measured through Dev Points, which are awarded for contributions to planetary development. These points allow players to increase their Development Level, unlocking new tools and creative options as they advance. Additionally, interaction with other players is a vital aspect of the game, with Connex Points earned through community involvement.

The leaks have provided a glimpse into a potentially ambitious online multiplayer project that combines creative building with strategic, cooperative play. However, with more information likely under wraps, it remains to be seen how Nintendo will respond to the breach and what further developments will arise from this intriguing new game concept.
