Among the aforementioned games set to be revealed at State of Play is Sonic X Shadow Generations, as per Twitter/X user Kurakasis. Their information was verified by Universo Nintendo’s Necro Felipe. Going by the name, this unannounced title may be a remaster or remake of the original Sonic Generations, or perhaps a sequel.

Sonic Generations is a 2011 platform game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, and Nintendo 3DS. It was released as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The game offers two gameplay styles: “Classic,” resembling side-scrolling gameplay from the original Sega Genesis Sonic games, and “Modern,” with 3D levels similar to Sonic Unleashed (2008) and Sonic Colors (2010).

Development began after Sonic Unleashed, aiming to re-imagine popular franchise elements in high-definition using the Hedgehog Engine. Locations and bosses from previous entries are revisited, with various references to past games. Players control either “Classic” or “Modern” Sonic, each with distinct gameplay styles. Classic Sonic’s gameplay is side-scrolling, reminiscent of the 1990s Sonic games, utilizing moves like the Spin Dash and Spin Attack. Modern Sonic’s gameplay combines third-person and side-scrolling perspectives, featuring techniques from Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors, such as boosting and homing attacks. Both versions of Sonic collect rings for health and various power-ups, including elemental shields, invincibility, speed shoes, skateboards, and Wisps. Players can customize and purchase additional abilities at a Skill Shop.
