Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation) has asked the creator of Bloodborne Kart to “scrub the branding off” the game.

The Bloodborne Kart creator, Lilith Walther, shared an update regarding legal issues with PlayStation on their YouTube channel. They mentioned that they were contacted by Sony Interactive Entertainment in relation to their game’s use of its Bloodborne IP.

According to the game’s creator, Sony Interactive Entertainment asked them to scrub the branding off of what was previously known as Bloodborne Kart, which they agreed to do. However, this means that the project will require a short delay. They assured fans of the Kart racer that it will still see the light of day. It’s just that it’ll end up looking slightly different how it currently looks.

Walther stated that they’ve mentioned during multiple interviews that the development team had been expecting this to happen, and that they would have been pleasantly surprised if it hadn’t. As it did end up happening, the development team has now diverted focus towards making the necessary changes outlined by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The developer said that they’ll update fans will a new release date as soon as it becomes available.

The developer stated that, as much as they had pushed for the game to be “the meme made real” so to speak, turning the Kart racer into an original game that they have full creative control over is also exciting. As such, they said that it is no longer a ‘fan’ game.

Sony Interactive Entertainment owns the Bloodborne IP. It is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware for the PlayStation 4. The storyline follows a Hunter navigating the Gothic, Victorian-era–inspired city of Yharnam, where residents, known as Yharnamites, are turning into monstrous beasts due to a blood-borne disease. The Hunter seeks the origin of the plague, uncovering the city’s secrets and engaging in battles against beasts and cosmic entities.
