Lucasfilm Has Possibly Registered A New Trademark For Bethesda’s Indiana Jones Game

Lucasfilm has possibly registered a new trademark for Bethesda Game Studios’ upcoming Xbox exclusive Indiana Jones game.

Twitter user Kurakasis spotted that Lucasfilm has registered several domains on January 9th, 2024, namely indianajonesandthegreatcirclegame.com, indianajones-and-the-great-circle.com, and indianajonesandthegreatcircle.com. The first domain indicates that the trademark is for a game, possibly the upcoming Xbox exclusive Indiana Jones game that is being development by Bethesda’s MachineGames.

Based on the domain title, the Xbox exclusive Indiana Jones game in development at Bethesda’s MachineGames is likely to be called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Lucasfilm had also filed a trademark for ‘The Great Circle’ in Europe two years ago under the category of ‘goods and services for video games’. The trademark included mention of ‘mobile’, possibly because these games can now be played via streaming services on phones or due to some other legal reasons. It’s worth noting that the trademark for most console and PC games includes mention of ‘mobile’, therefore this is nothing out of the ordinary.

Previously, during an interview with Axios Gaming author Stephen Totilo, Disney’s Gaming Director, Sean Shoptaw, mentioned that Microsoft had requested to renegotiate the license terms for Indiana Jones with the company in order to make it Xbox/PC exclusive after it had acquired Bethesda and, in turn, the game’s development studio, MachineGames. Shoptaw stated that, with Xbox still being one of the bigger marketplaces for games, Disney didn’t feel like the Indiana Jones game would end up being  overly exclusionary. He felt that the game would still reach a broad set of gaming audiences, and also felt that, at the time, it made sense from a financial and strategic perspective.

Earlier, it was reported that MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title is being developed using Unreal Engine. This is according to a recent job opening for the position of Lead Level Designer, which required candidates to have some experience with the Unreal Level Editor.
