The Marcus Fenix Collection Is Rumored To Be In Development

A compilation of the original Gears of War trilogy, titled The Marcus Fenix Collection, is in active development, based on the latest rumor.

YouTuber Mr BoomStick XL (via) claims to have heard from someone in the know that The Marcus Fenix Collection, a compilation of the original Gears of War trilogy, is “real” and in active development. He mentioned that his source has seen the game in action.

The YouTuber didn’t go into further detail regarding the project. As such, if it is indeed real, it’s unclear whether the compilation will feature remasters or full fledged remakes of Gears of War 1, 2, and 3 that are possibly developed using Unreal Engine 5, with shared multiplayer matchmaking.  The original games already run on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S via backward compatibility with some visual enhancements. As always, we urge our readers to take such rumors with a grain of salt until they have been verified through official channels.

Back in 2015, the first game in the Gears series had received a dedicated remaster in the form of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Developed by The Coalition and published by Microsoft Studios, it aimed to preserve the original gameplay while updating the visuals for modern Xbox consoles. The game is based on the source code of the original and was launched for Xbox One in August 2015 and for Windows in March 2016.

The game runs at 1080p resolution (Full HD) and 30 frames per second in the campaign, while multiplayer modes operate at 60 frames per second. Major additions include mechanics from newer Gears of War games, such as weapon switching during roadie running and a spotting system. Skill-based matchmaking was introduced for multiplayer modes. The remaster  includes five additional single-player chapters that were previously exclusive to the PC version of the original game. They are set in the campaign’s fifth act before the Special Delivery chapter. These chapters depict Delta Squad escaping a Brumak, a giant creature, between the fourth and fifth acts, culminating in a boss fight. The ending cutscene is altered to reveal a glimpse of Myrrah, the Locust Queen, a detail only conveyed through her voice in the original game.
