Twitter/X Has Reached Out To Sony To Explore New PS4/PS5 Integration, Including Live Streaming

Twitter/X has reached out to Sony in an effort to explore new PS4 and PS5 integration, including the addition of live streaming.

Earlier today, X News Daily on Twitter/X reported that the platform’s integration with PlayStation consoles has now gone offline. The tweet mentioned that whatever issue Sony has with X hasn’t been resolved yet, though Elon had stated last week that he would look into the problem.

The official X Dev team responded to the news by clarifying that the existing system for sharing content to Twitter/X on PlayStation platforms was based on legacy integration. The team at Twitter/X has now reached out to explore new integrations for PS4 and PS5, including live-streaming.

As of now, the only way to share screenshots via the PS4 and PS5 is by uploading them directly to the PlayStation app, and then retrieving them to your mobile phone gallery. As for videos over 3 minutes of length, YouTube integration is available on both consoles.

Twitter/X is the second social media platform that has been removed from PlayStation integration for the sharing of screenshots and videos. Previously, direct sharing of content to Facebook had also been removed, leaving YouTube as the only remaining third-party option.

Recently, Microsoft had also announced the removal of the option to share game clips directly to Twitter from Xbox consoles and the Windows Game Bar, attributing the decision to Twitter’s recent API changes. Users can continue to share their game clips through the Xbox mobile apps for Android and iOS. The announcement was made via the official Xbox Twitter account in response to a user who faced difficulties sharing Minecraft content on the platform. The new Twitter API rules and pricing structure have caused concerns among developers, researchers, and users alike.

Twitter’s revamped API plans range from $42,000 per month for 50 million tweets to a staggering $210,000 per month for 200 million tweets. The pricing structure appears to lack discounts for higher-tier packages, deviating from the typical model adopted by many online companies.
