Board game enthusiasts can now prepare for the release of CATAN – Console Edition, set to launch on Tuesday, February 28th, on both PlayStation and Xbox platforms. The game, developed by Nomad Games and published by Dovetail Games, will be available for pre-order from February 3rd, with early access starting on February 23rd for pre-order customers.
A new video from Dovetail Games offers a glimpse of the game in action, showcasing an animated board that stays true to the original board game’s aesthetic. Studio Producer Natalie Dodd stated, “Our aim was to bring the iconic board game to life in a digital format, preserving its authentic gameplay for fans, while introducing it to a new audience. We are excited to see Catanians play from their couches and online.”
CATAN – Console Edition features dynamic single-player AI and the ability to track resources on a smartphone, along with single-player, couch multiplayer, and online multiplayer options. The game’s AI comes in the form of individual characters with their own gameplay strategies, bringing a new level of immersion to the game. Couch multiplayer allows up to four players to enjoy the game on one console, with the ability to track resources on a smartphone without the need to install an app. Cross-play has also been confirmed for online multiplayer, bringing together fans from both PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
In the game, players become immersed as explorers on the island of CATAN, collecting resources and outsmarting other players. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One consoles, and will be available in Standard and Deluxe editions. The Deluxe edition includes 5 previous CATAN World Championship board layouts from the real-life competition.
Pre-ordering the Standard edition will grant early access from February 23rd, with Deluxe pre-orders also receiving a specially designed player Dice Skin & Hex Frame and a 10% pre-order discount. The Standard edition will be priced at £16.99/$19.99/€19.99 and the Deluxe edition will be priced at £19.99/$24.99/€24.99.
